The winners of the ’Czech Horizon’ were announced!

The winners of the national competition ‘Czech Horizon’ were announced on the first day of the festival.

The Award for Best Czech Music Video goes to the energetic music video for the song ‘Woo’ by DVA created by director Jaromír Plachý. The Award for Best Czech Commissioned Work was given to Jan Mika for the film he made for the Hussite Museum in Tábor commemorating the 600th anniversary of the death of Jan Žižka portraying the life of the famous military leader using a humorous and detached perspective, including the historical context in which he operated. Daniela Hýbnerová’s Bioshorts – Regeneration Tricks was named Best Czech Series. Pola Kazak with her film Weeds, which she created using paint-on-glass animation, won the Best Czech Student Film Award. The PPF Foundation Award for Best Czech Short and Feature Film was presented to Jan Saska’s Hurikán. As the day slowly ends, the film’s protagonist takes on a Herculean task and promises to get the enchanting barmaid in his favourite beer stall a new beer barrel. Living Large by Kristina Dufková received the Czech TV Award for Best Czech Animated Creation; this award is given to works selected across all categories.The winners were chosen by the Council of Animated Film composed of animation professionals. All selected films in competition will be screened at Anifilm.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Vratislav Hlavatý, a legend of Czech animation, graphic design and hot-air ballooning. As a designer, he has collaborated on films by Jiří Brdečka, Gene Deitch, Václav Bedřich, Jiří Tyller, Jaroslava Havettová and Michaela Pavlátová. He is known to the general public as a graphic designer, illustrator and author of many original film posters. His filmography, which will be presented at Anifilm, includes the films My Darling Clementine (1959), The Giants (1969), Carnival of Animals (2006) and the series From the Diary of a Third-Grade Pupil, or Edudant and Francimore (1993). The current exhibition of Hlavatý’s work in the Regional Gallery Liberec is also part of the celebration.
