Environmental and Social Sustainability in the Audiovisual Industry
In this short lecture, we will explore both Environmental and Social Sustainability in the audiovisual industry, recognizing their deep connection. We’ll examine the industry's journey toward environmental responsibility—from its early steps to its rapid growth and the latest innovations shaping a more sustainable future. Through real-world examples from productions, we’ll provide practical insights on how you, as an individual, can contribute to this progress.

Social sustainability is just as crucial, yet often overlooked in our industry. It focuses on the well-being of people and communities, ensuring that workplaces are not only productive but also supportive and inclusive. With a growing interest from crews in achieving a better work-life balance, positive change is on the horizon. After all, a truly sustainable industry values not just the planet, but also the people who bring stories to life.

About the company:
New Era Safety is dedicated to ensuring that clients can maintain the integrity of their creative vision while keeping their projects and teams safe. As one of the few companies worldwide offering comprehensive health and safety services, New Era Safety also provides specialised sustainability support, helping productions meet both environmental and social responsibility goals.

About the speakers:
Janka Neustupova and Zuzana Kordova are both part of New Era Safety, each specialising in different areas of health and safety. Janka focuses on Psychological Health & Safety and Intimacy Coordination, while Zuzana specialises in Occupational and Fire Health & Safety. What unites them is their commitment to sustainability within the audiovisual industry. Through their respective fields, they actively promote sustainable practices and challenge pre-established norms, encouraging industry professionals to take responsibility for making well-informed and ethical choices in sustainability.

Eco Stop Motion - How to find and work with biobased materials
In the face of climate change, stop motion film productions must take action to reduce their carbon footprint. Most generate significant amounts of non-recyclable waste, yet few sustainability guidelines adress this issue. This presentation showcases examples of  the use of bio-based, biodegradable materials as an environmentally friendly alternative. While not yet widely adopted, these materials reduce waste, are non hazardous to human health, and offer new creative possibilities.

About the Speaker:
Clara Schulze is an animator with both a passion for stop motion and the planet. Since her animation studies at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, she focuses on making stop-motion film production more sustainable, from eco-friendly set design to resource-efficient production methods, because even puppets need to reduce their carbon footprint.
