GAME WORKSHOPS
Concept Art in the Times of AI
Designing, Creating and Building a Portfolio
Mergen Erdenebayar
WHEN: Thursday 7 May, 14-17
WHERE: Grand Hall, Liebieg Palace, Liberec
This workshop focuses on the current reality of working as a concept artist in the gaming industry. In the first part, we will explain how game art pipeline works today, what studios really expect from junior and experienced artists and how the role of concept art changes with the emergence of AI tools. We will discuss how to think about a portfolio, how to stand out in an overwhelmed environment and what skills are worth developing today.
In the second, practical part of the workshop, we will analyse the portfolio of the participants. We recommend the participants to bring their own portfolios or selected works (digital or printed). We will go through them together and focus on design thinking, clarity of the designs, anatomy, presentation and ways to structure the portfolio so that it makes sense to game studios.
The workshop is intended for beginners as well as experienced artists who want to work in game art, concept art and visual development of games and animations. The workshop is accessible with a valid festival accreditation. Its capacity is limited, so we kindly ask interested participants to register in advance. The session will be held in either Czech or English, depending on the preference of the majority of registered participants. For this reason, we recommend that all applicants consider their own language proficiency in advance.
From Idea to Implementation

WHEN: Thursday 7 May, 10-13
WHERE: Grand Hall, Liebieg Palace, Liberec
In this workshop, we will deal with an approach to creating visual assets as a problem that needs to be solved actively. Together, we will create visuals with aspects and details that deepen the narrative and atmosphere of the game. The process will start with the initial idea and lead to a final solution, emphasising iteration, modifications and search for suitable approaches.
The workshop will also point out the relative irrelevance of the initial idea. Its true value is created in its development. Originality doesn’t come from the initial idea, but from the decisions that form the resulting visual language and define the basic design pillars of the game.
