The International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm in Liberec is one of the biggest showcases of its kind in Europe. In its nearly 25 years of history, it has gained popularity among professionals and the public. A meticulously refined structure of the film, gaming and Industry programme, a high-quality extensive collection of films in competition, the presence of international professionals, an experienced team and various activities organized throughout the year – these are the main attributes that make Anifilm what it is.

The festival’s mission is to present each year what our programmers believe are the best animated works created around the world. The festival also wants to remember and further develop the Czech animated film cultural heritage, contribute to the creation of new Czech films and provide space for the potential establishment of international co-productions.

The accompanying activities undertaken by Anifilm are aimed at supporting education in animation. With its wide-reaching programme, the festival strives to change the stereotypical perception of animated works as mere entertainment or production for children and families. The goal of Anifilm’s endeavours is to make accessible to the wide public the rich wealth of Czech animated movies, historical and current, that are generally not very well known.

Anifilm is an Oscar qualifying festival (in the category of short animated films) and the winning Czech films are nominated for the European Animation Awards – the Emile Awards. Anifilm supports Czech films through the Czech Horizon Grant. Anifilm is a member of the Animation Festival Network.
