Anifilm in Liberec has Started – First Awards Presented, the Winners of Czech Horizon can be Streamed Online At the festival’s opening ceremony, Anifilm International Festival of Animated Films presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to sound engineer Ivo Špalj. Experienced expert on sound in animation is known also for his long-term collaboration with Jan Švankmajer. With the award, Anifilm symbolically opened this year’s festival theme Hear Animation focusing on many forms of music and sound.
Animorpha, the typical festival glass award of an amorphic shape, wasn’t presented only to Ivo Špalj during the opening ceremony, but also to the winners of the national competition Czech Horizon. Unlike in the festival’s international competition, the winners of Czech Horizon aren’t selected by a jury, but by a group of Czech animation professionals united by the Council of Animated Film. All 112 members cast their votes before the festival and picked the following winners:
Best Commissioned Work: Fake News in the Digital World by Kryštof Pacourek
Best Music Video: Talya La Lie: Shredder by Eliška and Lee Oz
Best Televison / Online Series: episode Truffles from the series Hungry Bear Tales by Kateřina Karhánková and Alexandra Májová
Best Student Film: Daughter by Daria Kashcheeva
Best Short Film which had to compete in one category with feature films for the first time this year: Washing Machine by Alexandra Májová
Best animated film across all categories of Czech Horizon was voted Daughter. Daria Kashcheeva’s puppet film can add another item on its already phenomenal list of successes. All awarded films can be streamed online until the end of the festival at the platform Aniont here.
