Anifilm reveals its theme
16. 4. 2026
At this year’s Anifilm, you can look forward to a showcase of animated films inspired by myths and legends. It’s no surprise that there is a wealth of animated films which explore the boundary between reality and the supernatural. One of the impulses that motivated us to explore this theme was the work of Cartoon Saloon, a studio which draws heavily on Irish mythology. Another rich source of inspiration, not only for us but for creators around the world, is Greek mythology. But we are by no means going to limit ourselves to Ireland and Greece. Festival visitors will get to experience many different stories from the treasure trove of mythologies from all over the world, for instance, two adaptations of the Epic of Gilgamesh or a screening block dedicated to various cultures and their creation myths. Our tour will include myths from Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, Slavic and Arab mythology as well as Inuit and Native American legends.
The theme has already made its debut in Liberec with the exhibition Wolfwalkers, which opened on 18th April at the Gallery Lázně.
