Anifilm begins in a week, get ready for the best of animation!

Anifilm is just behind the corner, with its rich programme filled with the most interesting works of both international and Czech animation. The complete programme is already available online here.

Industry programme begins already on Tuesday

For the first time this year, the programme for film professionals will start already on Tuesday at 1pm in Grandhotel Zlatý lev with an event focused on the connection between animation and exhibitions. Animation presents new possibilities for exhibition spaces to share stories, emotions and information. The programme will offer examples of good practice and focus on technical and legal aspects of using animation in exhibitions. The programme is prepared by Anifilm in collaboration with Brains Studios and AV MEDIA SYSTEMS and connects professionals from culture, technology and museum sectors. Speakers will include John Marciniak (BWC Visual Technology), Jan Buriánek, representatives of Brainz Studios, Ivan Rous, Marek Martinka and Juliána Silvie Kamas (Krutart). Enter the world of animation through the eyes of our jurors

Anifilm also features jury programmes where visitors can take a sneak peek into the creative process of the leading figures of world animation. On 7 May in Malé Theatre, Thomas Renoldner will share his experience in production and development of (not only) animated movies. On the following day in Malé Theatre, Mohamed Ghazala will commemorate the 90 years of history of animation in Africa and Josh Shaffner will give a masterclass in which he will introduce the key elements of his creative process. Jindřich Skeldal will talk about acting in virtual reality in Grandhotel Zlatý lev. On Friday, 9 May, Zoé Nguyen Thanh will share her thoughts on the search for a visual style in Grandhotel Zlatý lev, while Malé Theatre will host Tomek Popakul and his 2-hour masterclass; Popakul is a filmmaker whose innovative approach to animation has won acclaim at festivals around the world. On Saturday, 10 May in Grandhotel Zlatý lev, Kriss Sagan will examine the ways to survive and develop oneself in the creative chaos of current production and Xavier Kawa-Topor will discuss why René Laloux has remained one of the most influential visionaries of science fiction animation. In the afternoon in Malé Theatre, in her masterclass Diana Cam Van Nguyen will take visitors on her personal journey and discuss her sources of inspiration for creating her acclaimed anidocs, while Diego Polieri will analyse the connections between genre, creation and unceasing work on own visions, using his projects Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Scavengers Reign and more.

Accompanying programme at Anifilm 2025: Concerts and exhibitions  

Anifilm 2025 is not just about films – its accompanying programme will enrich your festival experience with extra cultural dimensions. Every night the Festival Tent comes alive with live concerts: on 6 May, the festival will open with Marcel Gidotes Holy Crab, on 7 May the programme will continue with Mat213. Singer and DJ Johuš Matuš will perform on 8 May and on Friday, 9 May we will welcome the band Mutanti hledaj východisko. The bands Zapomnělsem and Post-hudba will perform on the last night of the festival.

Visitors can also look forward to thematic exhibitions such as Living Large that accompanies the eponymous film by Kristina Dufková and is on display in Liebieg Palace or a retrospective exhibition of Vratislav Hlavatý in the Regional Gallery Liberec – both exhibitions are open daily from 10.00am to 6.00pm.

The Anifilm accompanying programme offers a wide range of cultural events that complement the main film programme and contribute to the unique atmosphere at the festival.
