Anifilm 2025 Announces the Main Festival Theme: Science-Fiction Animation
21. 2. 2025
For the first time in its history, this year’s Anifilm will explore the fascinating world of science-fiction – a genre that combines dreams, technology and deliberation about the future of human existence. Join us in exploring endless possibilities and find out how sci-fi resonates in animation all over the world. What do we have in store for you? Anifilm will screen pivotal films by René Laloux, including his restored gem Fantastic Planet. Other cult classics you will see at the festival include the iconic Ghost in the Shell and the visually astonishing title Chronopolis. You will also have a chance to see short films by Piotr Kamler, American independent sci-fi animation and sci-fi animation made in the Eastern Bloc. We will also screen Czech sci-fi and films by Václav Mergl and Jiří Trnka. Contemporary sci-fi animation will be represented mainly by series such as Scavengers Reign and Arcane but also feature films. Anifilm visitors can also look forward to distinguished guests – one of them will be French historian Xavier Kawa-Topor who wrote a book on Fantastic Planet. Sci-fi will encapsule the whole festival – it will appear in our children’s programme Animo, in our midnight screenings and it’s already present in the festival visual identity by Marek Berger. |
