Il(s) tourne(nt) en rond

Boris Labbé | France | 2010 | 3 min

Characters on a painting by the Flemish artist Pieter Brueghel the Younger were replaced by clones of the director himself. They bring the painting alive by frolicking around and each viewer can choose to follow one of dozens of clones who live the lives of the original characters in endless animated loops.

Cinétique

Boris Labbé | France | 2011 | 5 min

This play with the end and beginning of a structure of organic shapes is accompanied by equally organic sounds, electronics and voices. It exposes the principles of optics, disrupts them and refers to film’s ancient history. Gradual immersion into an endless vortex evokes fear and fascination and reminds us of the conflict of life and death.

Kyrielle

Boris Labbé | France | 2011 | 10 min

The title comes from a French play on words when one word follows another. Myriad aquarelle characters gradually cover the whole screen and their cyclical mini-stories grow into an abstract kaleidoscopic structure full of colour. Labbé also uses the principle of growth and disappearance with regards to the soundtrack.

Caverne

Boris Labbé | France | 2011 | 7 min

Another one of Labbé’s hypnotic films is built around an expressive visual and musical rhythm. It combines jungle-like sounds with projections on the wall of a depressing space. By connecting the projections resembling animal x-rays, kaleidoscopic patterns are created and hint at new animal species.

Rhizome

Boris Labbé | France | 2015 | 11 min

Everything is connected in the universe, from the smallest things to the biggest. In this colourfully economical film, Boris Labbé shows how seemingly independent things exist in interaction by depicting their movement and constant metamorphoses in a detailed 2D animation of Indian ink and watercolours on paper.

Any Road

Boris Labbé | France | 2016 | 11 min | EN

This captivating audiovisual trip begins with an innocent game of Pong. To the sounds of Daniel Ghisi’s music, we set out on an inconstant ride that is unreliable for the viewers. This fall through the subconscious is characterized by a quote from Carroll’s Alice: “…So long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation.

Orogenesis

Boris Labbé | Spain, France | 2016 | 8 min

The authors take us into a black-and-white world of a realistic computer simulation. We can make out the shapes of mountain ranges and the details of the valleys while hearing choral music. But hand-in-hand with the distortion of the soundtrack come slight transformations of the known world. An abstract ecstasy or a speculation on how mountains were formed.
