GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

ANIFILM is an International Festival of Animated films that

  • serves as an annual meeting ground for film professionals and moviegoers alike
  • creates space for promotion of both the new trends and the most interesting developments in the history of animation
  • offers stage for positive confrontation between film professionals from all over the world, for their discussions and for making new contacts
  • supports ongoing as well as brand new animation projects, their creators, producers and distributors
  • aspires to become a cultural project in the long term representing and promoting the Czech Republic and the town of Třeboň in the world

This year’s festival takes place in Třeboň from May 3rd to May 8th 2011. In the six days of the festival we will be screening the newest and the most discussed films by Czech and foreign authors. The festival will screen notable contemporary animated films in Czech or international premiere and it will also introduce films that have already taken part in some of the world’s largest festivals, but so far haven’t been screened in the Czech Republic.

The screenings will take place in Kino Světozor, Divadlo J. K. Tyla and the Roháč Culture Centre. The additional programme of the festival will be hosted by Výstavní sál pod věží, Zámecké galerie and Besedy.

Competition programme:

International competition of animated feature films – one of the main programmes of the festival, further divided into two sections – adult and family films

International competition of animated short films – international competition of animated short films made by professionals

Czech–Slovak Student Competition – short film competition for films made by students of Czech and Slovak film schools

Accompanying programme:

Feature films made by Jan Švankmajer – a thematic presentation of feature-length and short animated films, this year dedicated to an extensive retrospective of the internationally acclaimed Czech director Jan Švankmajer.

Balance (Bilance) – presentation of those feature-length animated films, which were the most popular in Czech cinemas during the past year. You will see films like Shrek: Forever After, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Despicable Me, Megamind, Rango, Rio and many more.

Aardman Animations uvádí Wallace&Gromit – we are presenting a feature film and a collection of Aardman´s short films with popular duo Wallace & Gromit.

Focus – curated selections focusing at chosen cultural or pop-cultural phenomena of the contemporary animated production: showcases based on geographical, historical or thematic considerations. This year we are going to focus on the contemporary British, Belgium, Slovenian, Belgian and Canadian production and we will introduce short nominated for this year’s Oscar.

AnimaSongs – between music, animation and New Media.

Views (Pohledy) – a show of "fateful films" by the world renown Estonian directing duo Olga and Priit Pärn.

Animo TV – Czech television presents – fairy tales for the smallest

Work in Progress this program is mainly aimed on film professionals and promotes animated feature films currently in production

Game day - programme for film professionals aimed at the territory of animation and electronic entertainment. The programme is organized in cooperation with the organization Czech Games (České hry o.s.).

Animation Workshop – animation and art workshops, led by experienced authors, teachers and students of film schools

Exhibition – the theme is related to animation. As usual, we would like to prepare an exhibition not only for the duration of the festival, but long term, so that it can stay in Třeboň for the whole summer. This year’s exhibition is dedicated to the works of Jan Švankmajer.

FEES AND PASSES:

The Information Centre and the Centre for Passes will be located at the Masarykovo náměstí.

A pass enables you a priority entrance on screenings. Only five minutes before the start of the screening will the doors to the screens be open for the visitors without passes, free of charge.

Passes:
One day – 80 Kč (a programme included)
Six days – 400 Kč (a programme and a festival catalogue included)

There are no discounts for students. Children under 12 years get a pass for free. Free entry: Roháč and evening screenings at the Masarykovo náměstí.
