Fruits of Clouds

Kateřina Karhánková | Czech Republic | 2017 | 10 min

This poetic fairy-tale is about crossing boundaries and having the courage to venture into the unknown. At a small glade surrounded by a dark forest live creatures whose only food are seeds that turn into glowing fruits. The creatures are often hungry as the seeds fly to them only sporadically. But one of them, Fuzzy, gathers the courage to go into the forest.

Tony and Mr. Illness

Katerina Karhankova | Czech Republic | 2014 | 5 min | CS | EN titulky

Little Tony is ill and, like every child, he’s not very happy about it. How does he get rid of the illness, so he can get back to playing? Will he find a way? Kateřina Karhánková asked Ester Nemjóová who, much like herself, specialises in films for the smallest children, to artistically collaborate on this combined film.

The New Species

Kateřina Karhánková | Czech Republic | 2013 | 7 min | EN titulky | 2D computer / 2D počítačem

As her graduation film at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the director chose a story of three friends who find a bone and try to find out to which animal it belonged. The film builds upon a stylisation for children and uses eye-catching colour combinations. With its attitude to the world of children, the film is reminiscent of the famous film by Jiří Brdečka Gallina vogelbirdae.

Keep Pace

Kateřina Karhánková | Czech Republic | 2010 | 2 min

This film exploring the influence of society on the development of an individual combines almost realistic drawings with childishly naïve but colourful images full of fantasy. It puts in contrast a boring black and white “adult” world governed by rules with a world of children that can fall behind a little but is filled with imagination. The author asks the question of whether it is right that we must give up ourselves just to keep up with the majority.
