Tips for Wednesday

Today’s special: Italian Delicacies - 1:30 p.m., Světozor Cinema

Films included in this screening block presenting Italian artistic animation are characterized by the use of traditional handmade animation techniques and emphasis on sophisticated artistic visuals. This movement, known as neo-pictorial outside Italy, has been around for thirty years and includes for example the mesmerizing, drawn or painted films by Simone Massi, Ursula Ferrara, and Gianluigi Toccafonda.

Charming clay outsiders - 6:00 p.m., Puppet Theatre

Today, you will have an opportunity to meet the Australian author Adam Elliot as he personally introduces his films, including the Academy Award winning hit Harvie Krumpet. The tragicomic heroes or rather anti-heroes of Elliot’s “clayographies” may seem a little odd, but their author always shows them great respect and never makes fun of them when telling their stories.

Neo-pictorial animation – is that a thing? - 4:00 p.m., Schwarzenberg Hall

Neo-pictorial animation was created by a small group of authors in Milan in the 1990s. It combines film, visual art and animation. The movement produced highly original and distinctive films that are still influencing Italian animators even today. Get inspired too both by the unique films and the Italian theoretician Chiara Magri – today at 4:00 p.m. in the Schwarzenberg Hall.
