Entr’acte

Seyed Mohamadreza Kheradmandan | Iran | 2016 | 8 min

This film portrays an alleged event from the Gaza strip where a sniper bragged on social media that he shot thirteen children in one day. Made in Spain

Coke Riobóo | Spain | 2016 | 11 min

This satirical film depicting contemporary Spain, its national “values,” tradition and clichés, animates miniature figurines. The story, tied together by a wild chase, takes us to a sunny beach. The author was clearly inspired by the aesthetics of A Town Called Panic but also tries to offer a critical view of the present.

Blind Vaysha

Theodore Ushev | Canada | 2016 | 9 min

This captivating film by the Canadian-based Bulgarian artist Theodore Ushev portrays the world through the eyes of a girl called Vaysha. She was born with a very special gift. With one eye, she sees only the past, and with the other, only the future. The present is merely a black smudge for her so she lives a schizophrenic life torn between the known and safe past and the sinister and threatening future.

Broken – The Women’s Prison at Hoheneck

Volker Schlecht, Alexander Lahl | Germany | 2016 | 8 min

This impressive film is a representative of the anidoc genre in our competition. It sensitively, innovatively and at times also abstractly illustrates the story of two women held in the most famous women’s prison in East Germany. With a pressing persuasiveness, it depicts the remorseless everydayness of the overcrowded jail cells and endless cycles of forced labour.
